Obituary: on 17 January 2010: Joseph Charles Fenech Aug. 27, 1932 - Jan. 7, 2010 Joe, the only child of Joe and Grace Fenech, was born in San Francisco in 1932. He was raised in the city and graduated from Balboa High School. He also attended San Francisco State University where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Science. He proudly served aboard ship as a seaman in the Navy during the Korean War. During his lifetime he worked as a junior chemist and an assistant teacher in college. For several years he was a published sportswriter for the San Francisco Examiner. He then moved on to work with the San Francisco Branch of the ATF and retired after 32 years of service. From his early days, Joe was a skilled artist, a collector of books and student of literature as well as an avid sports fan. As much as he enjoyed football, baseball, and basketball his number one passion in sports was boxing. Not only was he a good boxer in his own time but throughout his life he carried with him as encyclopedic knowledge of the history of boxing. Joe's other passion in life was his family and friends. He will be fondly remembered by those closest to him in California and in Portland, Oregon, where he spent his last three and a half years, for his kind soul and genuine concern for others. He is survived by his son, William "Bill" Fenech, his daughter, Laura Begovich and his grandchildren Briana, Christiana, Emma, Joseph, Nathan and Leah.
